Hi,

Well, self-hypnosis is a tool that virtually everyone can use for personal development in pretty much in area of their lives, but it must be properly used to be effective. Learning how to do self hypnosis will give you a huge edge in accomplishing your goals. A strong willingness to focus and put forth a persistent effort practically guarantees that in the end you will be amazed at the results and you will wonder why you did not do this sooner.

Performing self hypnosis is quite easy; the hard part is staying committed and focused.

Thanks! This is a great technique and takes very little time to perform. And I like your explanation a lot. What I sometimes do to deepen it is TURN OFF areas of thought (e.g. my career, money, relationships) until I find I am thinking of virtually nothing other than the enjoyment of blissing out. I will confess, though, that I have fallen asleep doing it. But I've found a way around that by keeping my eyes slightly open during the procedure.

This is a very simple technique to remember, but so creative! Finding new ways to induce trance and bring about relaxation is what hypnotherapists need to be doing all the time (and I'm pretty sure they do; we're a smart bunch).

I will try this induction very soon; thanks for the info!

Taylor,

Thank you for yet another informative article. I use self-hypnosis regularly. This gives me another induction process. I have several I use, depending on what I want to accomplish and my mood at the time. Also, some great suggestions on here from Alan and Adam as well as your last comment.

Also, I would be interested in reading Alan Clark's article if you post it.

Hey Adam,

What I suggest for my clients is that they give themselves suggestions going into the state, and also give themselves a time limit. In other words, "I am now going to go into a self-hypnotic state for 3 minutes. While there I would like my unconscious mind to come up with 3 new ideas for improving my life." And also to have paper and pen ready to do Automatic Writing (like you just talked about in a recent blog post) at the end of it.

With the time limit, I will instruct them to go in for 30 seconds and time it and tell them how accurate they were.

For me, I tend to go into it and create two parts of myself - the hypnotist and the hypnotic subject. This of course requires that you have a way to distinguish between them. I really like Wilma Keppel's "Walking Somnambulism" processes as what I consider to be very advanced self-hypnosis.

It's a very interesting question you raise though, how do we make use of it once we are there! For my clients I teach them how to do the "expectations going into it" way, because it's simple and it produces noticeable results. But I also encourage them to vary it up and find out what is possible.

Best wishes,

Taylor

Hey Taylor,

I like this one, really good process for inducing a self-hypnosis state.

What do you subsequently recommend for how people then use that state they have induced within themselves? How do you suggest they then make use of it?

Good work, do keep shining that light.

Best wishes, Adam.

Hey Taylor, this I would have to say is one of the best self-hypnosis techniques I have ever used. Up to this point I was using the betty erickson 3 down to 1 method (V-A-K). This worked almost instantaneously. Mind you I was dog tired when I tried it (4am) but I'll have some more go's with it tonight probably after I get back from work.
