Dr. Oz Talks About Hypnosis for Weight Loss

January 12, 2010

Since my last post on The Complete Self Hypnosis Weight Loss Strategy, I’ve been getting lots of comments from readers who have used hypnosis to lose weight and to gain a better level of control over their lives. Today, someone told me that Dr. Oz had a show that was specifically on how hypnosis could help you to lose weight.

I love it when hypnosis gets this much exposure in the news, because it is truly one of the best methods for weight loss. To celebrate this, I present to you the …

Top 5 Reasons To Lose Weight With Hypnosis

1. It’s Fast

Fad diets and long books on new “secrets” of weight loss can take a very long time to follow, with no guaranteed results and without feeling that you are making progress. Most hypnosis for weight loss takes between 3 and 5 sessions (Usually I do 5 sessions), and by the time you are done, you know that something has changed in your life.

2. It’s Real

One of the questions I am often asked when introduced to new people is, “Does hypnosis really work?” And yes, it works very well. Not only does it work for things like stopping smoking with hypnosis, but it works very well for weight loss and if you search around you will find that many people have had positive experiences with hypnosis and being hypnotized.

A woman e-mailed me the other day telling me that she had lost over 120 pounds with hypnosis and wanted to now become a hypnotist because she feels like she wants to help people to go through the same types of amazing changes she went through. Believe it or not, these stories are very common.

Another man replied to one of my posts from my Hypnosis Tips and Techniques subscription list, and told a similar story, that he had been hypnotized to lose weight. He said at first he was a complete skeptic and didn’t believe in hypnosis at all, but he approached it with an open mind and thought that maybe it could work for him.

After he was hypnotized, he found that he was drinking more water, eating less per portion, and exercising more. What he also said was that this time he actually enjoyed the exercise. He has kept the weight off for 8 months and is committed to being thin.

3. It’s Scientific

Hypnosis has already been studied and has been found to have a positive effect on all sorts of conditions, including losing weight. In the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, they featured a study which split 60 women into hypnosis and non-hypnosis groups.

The hypnotized women lost 17 pounds on average, while the non-hypnotized group lost only .5 pounds on average. There is a lot of research surrounding that hypnosis does work for weight loss.

4. It’s Relaxing

When most people go into hypnosis, they feel very relaxed and usually more relaxed than they thought they could feel. One person told me that the level of relaxation he feels when I take him into hypnosis is much better than anxiety medications like valium, plus it is safe and effective.

A lot of people have had in their mind that losing weight will be painful and that it will take a long time. This is just plain false. While it is true that you will have to keep up with eating healthy and exercising, these things will be a lot easier for you after going through a set of hypnosis sessions, and you may even begin to like them. Remember, there was a time when the idea that you could get “high” off exercise was unheard of. That was until they discovered endorphins, and found out that exercise actually can make you feel very light and pleasurable.

5. You Deserve It

No matter who you are, I am sure you have enough to go through in life without added stress or discomfort. Most people who want to lose weight say that they will feel better about themselves if they are thin, but the truth is they just want to feel normal and even sexy again. So that is why I say that you deserve it, and your weight loss journey should be as pleasurable as possible — after all, every pound that you lose is another step closer to your goal! Isn’t that something to get excited about?  I know I am.

In conclusion, I’m very glad that Dr. Oz has chosen to explore this topic on his show, and although I’m not affiliated with the doctor or with Oprah, I feel like they always contribute something great to the table and hopefully they can help people to achieve their dreams, which includes living a healthy life.

Hypnosis changes brain based behavior and as Dr Oz points out it has been effective in changing other behaviors such as smoking addiction. And certainly it is faster and cheaper than spending years with a therapist figuring out why every time you go on a diet, you hear your mother’s voice telling you how fat you are. But Dr Oz or anyone else know whether a future stress or emotional upheaval will NOT be responded to by overeating? There is no conscious learning involved. The dieter has no insight into why everytime she calls her mother, she cries and eats cookies until the box is empty with hypnosis. Hypnosis is like giving iron to someone who is anemia from a bleeding ulcer without curing the ulcer. To lose the reasons for emotional overeating, the overeater has to be willing to look at the causes, awake.
